WE LEARN BY DOING. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. - miles davis

1. Create a
PANORAMA.
Wherever you happen to be, take your camera and carefully turn your body in a circle, taking a shot each time you turn. Make sure to cover the ending and beginning points of each photo. You can put them into iMovie to create an animation or print them out (at school) and create a 360 degree photo. If you are successful and you like the results, do another one!
25pts. each.

2. EXPLORE A SUBJECT
A skill-sharpening exercise: Choose a simple object and take at least a hundred shots of it. Explore the effects of light and shadow. Experiment with focus, points of view, and an unsteady camera. Create a new wiki page and upload your photos.
50pts.

3. Take Yourself on a PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP.
Go to a place you think might be visually interesting and spend an hour or so there taking photos from all different angles and vantage points. Investigate points of view and shooting techniques that are both ordinary and unconventional. Frame your subject matter in the most interesting compositional arrangements that you can. Don't worry about so-called mistakes and failures. You will be able to sort through photos later on. Shoot at least 50 photos.
50pts.

MONDAY, December 1, 2008 : New Project : THE ANTI-MASTERPIECE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have each been assigned a "Masterpiece" to work with; a work of art made by one of the masters from the past. Your job is to use that image to create a work of ORIGINAL art.
Requirements for this project are as follows:

1. Your original work must have some artistic purpose. This means that you must do your research. Find out what you can about the "masterpiece" you've been assigned. Answer the following questions: What is the story behind it? What was going on in the world when it was created? Who was it created for? Who was it created by? What is the meaning of this work? How will you change it and why? When you understand the original work, you can then change its meaning by adding things or taking them away.
2. Alter your original image using the copier. Enlarge, shrink, distort, cut apart, reassemble, move things around, make a collage. Perhaps you might cut out people and put them in a modern setting. Perhaps you might draw a new hairstyle on an old figure in the painting.
3. Your finished work must be mounted on a piece of poster board. The size may vary according to your needs.
4. You may NOT glue any pieces to the board until we have a class review of each work-in-progress
